The Ambient Air Quality Legislation- Air Pollution Series guide aims to provide legal resources for developing robust national legislation to develop or improve ambient air quality legislation.

The guide promotes systems of air quality governance that prioritize public health outcomes and emphasizes that air pollution is a collective problem.

In the framework of the 1st session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) in Uruguay, a Multi-Stakeholder Forum was held, bringing together more than 600 participants to identify actions and solutions to end plastic pollution.

Asia Pacific Commemorates the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies

UNEP and UNESCAP hosted an in-person and online event to celebrate the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies.

The event, held in Bangkok, Thailand, and online was supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Thailand.

Asia and the Pacific has an estimated 4 million premature deaths attributed to air pollution a year. The event facilitated the sharing of national and local solutions and demonstrated the close links between air quality and other environmental and developmental challenges like climate change.

Battling air pollution from ships in the Mediterranean

Air pollution from ships in the Mediterranean is being tackled through the Mediterranean Sea Emission Control Area for Sulphur Oxides and Particulate Matter (MED SOx ECA) designation.

The designation was approved at the 78th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 78) and will be put forward for formal adoption at the 79th session in December.

On the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies Lucas di Grassi, the Formula E racing driver and UNEP Clean Air Advocate, talked about the transition to electric motors in the mobility sector.

Di Grassi, a successful professional racing driver, has also highlighted the role electric cars can play in combatting climate change and air pollution.
