Report: The inequality of air quality

Different Air Under One Sky, a report by Greenpeace, has highlighted the inequality of air quality.

The report has found that air pollution disproportionally affects the elderly, the young, people with health conditions and the poor.

Sand and dust storms, a transboundary issue

 

This year’s International Day of Clean Air for blue skies is being held under the theme ‘The Air We Share’ to highlight the global nature of air pollution.

The United Nations Coalition on Combating Sand and Dust Storm (SDS), which is made up of more than 15 UN entities and non-UN organizations and is currently chaired by The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), has been looking at the problem and its impact on air quality.

UNEP, the WHO, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations (UN) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition will be hosting an online event commemorating the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies.

The online event will be introduced by Ligia Noronha, the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the UNEP New York office. It will feature messages from António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the UN, Inger Andersen, the Executive Director of UNEP, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO and Joonkook Hwang, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea, to the UN.

Webinar to raise awareness on air pollution

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization will host a webinar on 7 September at 14:00 CET to celebrate the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies.

The event will aim to increase awareness of the threat of air pollution and raise awareness of existing solutions.

Mongolia raises awareness on air pollution

 

Mongolia is using the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies to raise awareness on air pollution.

UNEP is working with the Mongolian Ministry of Environment and the countries Tourism Ministry to launch a five-day communications campaign on the impact of air pollution on the people, economy and environment of Mongolia.

The campaign will engage key media and social media personalities and use video and social media posts to spread the message.

Happening Soon: The Fourth Asia Pacific Clean Air Partnership (APCAP) Joint Forum

The APCAP forum, held between 5 September and 7 September, will draw together experts from across the region to exchange ideas on clean air in the Asia Pacific region.

Held in Suwon, in the Republic of Korea and online, the event is being hosted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government. It will look at practical and effective multi-sectoral clean air solutions. The theme of the event will be: “ The Air We Share: Scaling up governance, legislation, and finance action.

Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions

An event in Beijing, China, is being held ahead of the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies and will be streamed online (Livestream link coming soon).

The 2022 Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions will be held on 4 and 5 September and will draw experts from across the world.

The theme of the professional forum is “Synergizing the Reduction of Pollution and Carbon Emissions”, and more information can be found here.

New reports reveals 25 clean air measures for Asia Pacific

The Asia Pacific Clean Air Partnership (APCAP) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) have identified 25 clean air measures that can positively impact human health. Implementing these measures could help 1 billion people breathe cleaner air by 2030. Read more here.
